Often, we have expectations, which is normal human behavior. We expect our kids to behave. We expect the person driving vehicle in the other lane towards us won’t cross the center line. We expect people to generally respect other people. How do we react when our expectations are not met?

In today’s Gospel reading, we hear people talking about Jesus:

Could the authorities have realized that he is the Christ?
But we know where he is from.
When the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.

Many people at the time of Jesus expected no one would know where the Christ was from. They did not expect where he came from to be know, they didn’t expect to know him as a child, know his parents.

But with God, we should expect the unexpected.

Expect God to love you no matter what you’ve done, no matter what your sins are. Expect God to use you to help spread his message to others no matter how young or old you are. Expect God to ask you to do things you are not comfortable doing – teaching a class, leading a prayer service, being a lecture or extraordinary minister. Expect God to ask you to donate some of the gifts he has given you to help others.

If you live a life expecting God to do the unexpected, you will have a great life.
